Saschiz is a Saxon village on the road between Sighisoara and Brasov, with a fortified hall-church included in the UNESCO site since 1999 and a peasant citadel on the hill above. It's one of the easiest and loveliest day trips from Sighisoara.

The hall-church and its tower
The church in Saschiz is built so that it could also serve as a refuge in times of danger — a special type known as a hall-church. Its tower recalls Sighisoara's Clock Tower, with which it is often compared.
The village itself is worth a walk: rows of Saxon houses, large gates and a quiet from another age.
The citadel on the hill
Above the village, on a hill, stand the ruins of the peasant citadel, from where you get a wide view over the surroundings. The climb is short and amply rewarded, especially in clear weather.
Saschiz pairs well with Viscri and Biertan on a tour of the fortified villages.
An easy outing from Casa Roșca
Being right on the road to Brasov, Saschiz is easy to fit into a day, setting out from the quiet of our guesthouse. You return in the evening for a coffee in the garden.
