The Clock Tower is the best-known building in Sighisoara: a gateway into the upper citadel, 64 metres tall, which today houses the History Museum. You can see it in about an hour, and from the upper gallery you get one of the finest views over the town's red rooftops.

At Casa Roșca you are a short walk from the Clock Tower, the heart of the citadel.

What you see at the Clock Tower

The tower was raised in the 14th century to defend the citadel's main gate and served for centuries as the town hall. Its name comes from the clock mechanism and from the wooden figurines that mark the days of the week, shown as old deities.

Inside, you climb through several museum levels, with exhibits on Sighisoara's guilds and crafts, and at the top you step out onto the wooden gallery. From up here the whole citadel lies at your feet: it's where all our guests take their first photo.

How long to stay and when to go up

Allow about an hour for the tower and the museum. Early morning or towards evening the light is softer for photos and the stairs are less crowded. Check the museum's opening hours on the day of your visit, as they can change with the season.

The tower is the natural place to start a walk through the citadel. From here you reach Citadel Square and Vlad Dracul's House in a few steps, then climb the Covered Staircase.

From Casa Roșca to the tower

Our guesthouse, at 48 Zaharia Boiu Street, is close enough to reach the old town on foot and quiet enough to rest in after a day of walking. We'll gladly show you the prettiest route at check-in.
