Citadel Square is the heart of Sighisoara's medieval town, right below the Clock Tower. For centuries it hosted fairs and gatherings, and today it's the spot with the loveliest colourful houses, terraces and cafés — the point from which every walk through the citadel begins.

After a coffee in Citadel Square, the quiet terrace of Casa Roșca awaits.

What you'll find in the square

All around are pastel façades, small workshops and terraces where you can sit over a long coffee and watch the town go by. From here the lanes lead off towards Vlad Dracul's House and the Covered Staircase.

It's also the best place to start a visit to the Clock Tower, which watches over the square from above.

The loveliest time of day

Early in the morning the square is almost empty and the light falls warm on the façades — the ideal moment for photos. Towards evening the terraces come alive and the town takes on a quiet, bohemian air.
