The Church on the Hill is one of the most valuable Gothic churches in Transylvania, built gradually between the 14th and 16th centuries at the top of School Hill. You reach it by climbing the Covered Staircase, and inside it preserves medieval murals uncovered during restoration.

A church centuries in the making
Construction began around 1345 and continued, with interruptions, until about 1525, giving the church its Gothic look today. It's a solemn, quiet place, very different from the bustle of the square.
During restorations in the 1990s, medieval wall paintings were brought to light, making the visit all the more rewarding for those who love history and art.
How to get there and what to see
The natural way up is the Covered Staircase, the wooden tunnel from 1642. At the top you're met by the church, the old Evangelical cemetery and a serene view over the citadel's rooftops.
It's a quiet way to end a walk through the UNESCO citadel. Give yourself a few minutes to sit on the hill, without hurry.
A refuge to match
The Church on the Hill teaches you Sighisoara's slow rhythm — the same rhythm you'll look for in a stay at Casa Roșca, our quiet guesthouse near the citadel.
